Explain to Me What a Postpartum Doula Does

A postpartum doula is a person who is trained in supporting new families through the transition into life with a new baby. They are beneficial in helping through the rough spots of new parenthood i.e. sleep, breastfeeding, etc.

A postpartum doula's ability can help in building confidence and easing stress levels for new parents. Every family's needs are different, so a doula can be hired for as little as one day or up to a year. You can choose daytime shifts, nighttime shifts, or both! Some families, depending on their needs or preferences, hire 24/7 support.

Support from a postpartum doula can look different for every family. Some things include but are not limited to feeding support (breast and/or bottle, pumping, etc.), ways to soothe baby, identifying red flags in emotional, mental and physical postpartum recovery, product recommendations, helping the family to rest while implementing healthy sleep hygiene and shaping for the baby, sibling acclimation, errands, housekeeping, meal prep and overall newborn care.
